The Intermunicipal Community of Tâmega e Sousa is responsible for:

• Setting up intermunicipal networks to share information and strengthen local technical capacities and skills;
   
• Implementing programmes that promote and facilitate the qualification of the working population and encourage the completion of compulsory minimum education;
   
• Identifying the training needs of the Intermunicipal Community of Tâmega e Sousa and the population and setting up partnerships with educational institutions or research centres;
   
• Developing competences in the field of continuing training, improving employability;
   
• Supporting and promoting initiatives to foster employability;
   
• Supporting the refurbishment and maintenance of school and sports facilities;
   
• Supporting the integrated management and planning of the school and sports facilities network;
   
• Developing programmes that promote sport;
   
• Ensuring the intermunicipal planning of the school transport network;
   
• Planning the educational offer at intermunicipal level in accordance with the criteria defined by the government departments with competence in the fields of education and vocational training;
   
• Planning and proposing priorities in the offer of vocational training courses at intermunicipal level in conjunction with the Instituto do Emprego e Formação Profissional, I.P. [Institute for Employment and Vocational Training] and the Agência Nacional para a Qualificação e o Ensino Profissional, I.P. [National Agency for Qualification and Vocational Education].
